Do You Have a Grinder?
Have you ever heard your child grind his or her teeth while sleeping? If your answer is yes, then you have a grinder. Teeth grinding, also called bruxism, is a sleep disorder that involves not only grinding of the teeth but also involves clenching of the jaw most of the time. This often occurs during deep sleep or sometimes, if a child is under stress.
Although not very common, as many as 3 out of 10 kids experience it but most of them outgrow it. The possible causes are misaligned top and bottom teeth, earache, teething, or stress. Aside from the possibility of wearing down tooth enamel, bruxism is more of a problem for other family members instead of the child. However, chronic grinding might warrant a visit or consultation with your child’s dentist.
