Career Paths for Kids: Network Support Specialist (Windows Server Monitoring)

My son is now in 5th grade. With the education system in our country, it means that he will be in high school two years from and college, six years from now. I am hoping to expose him to as many careers as possible so he can grasp the extent of each job and hopefully find something he would be passionate about.

I am from a medical-related course but work a technology-related and article writing centered job. It can be confusing at times. But I am no IT specialist.

He isn’t really keen in the information technology but he does love computers and the Internet. One time, an uncle explained to him all the things he does for a living. He is a Network Support Specialist – focusing on software support and solutions, like sql server monitoring, windows server monitoring and VMware monitoring. From what I have heard from their talk, networks are really used by almost all kinds of institutions these days. Most are going paper-less and taking advantage of technology by storing everything in micro-chips. It can be disseminated and searched for in a couple of keywords – and increases productivity of each employee and generates more revenue and improve customer satisfaction.

I asked him is he wanted to be an NSS (Network Support Specialist) and he told he would have to think about it more.

He can take all the time in the world.

Mom’s Worst Fears

As a Mom it is always a nightmare to realize that what we have been giving our children – food, medicines and toys for example – can be a subject of a recall by the manufacturer. We do not know the lasting effects of the harmful substance they have ingested. When pregnant, we try to be as cautious as possible and only eat and drink the healthiest foods for the baby. So when I learned about the controversial Topamax lawsuit my heat ached for the mothers who are affected with their babies.
