(Wise) Shopping Splurges in January
If there is one thing you should not be doing in the first month of a new year, it would be shopping. However, there are always exceptions to rules, and it is even a wise move to go shopping for these items in January (like buying gps for trucks!):
January is actually a good time to score some serious deals. Here are some ideas:
Linens and bedding Sheets, pillows, towels and more are all marked down.
Calendars With each passing day into the new year, calendars loose a little bit of value. Savvy shoppers wait a few weeks into the new year to see prices drop by as much as 70%.
Perfume This perennial holiday present usually sees its sales drop after Christmas so stock up before Valentine’s Day arrives.
Holiday supplies With nearly another year until the next holiday season rolls around, merchants are desperate to get whatever price they can for remaining holiday inventory.
Video games Many popular titles are targeted for release in the months leading up to the holidays, and such games see a drop in price after the hype has died down.
Furniture Most new furniture models hit stores in February and August, which means leftovers from last year’s collection have to go to free up floor space for new stock. You may even get a chance to negotiate.
Kid Flannel Sheets

Kid in a Candy Cane at Land of Nod

Penguin Promenade at The Company Store (duvet shown here, but also available as sheets)
A good family friend is going camping for the upcoming Thanksgiving vacation and they just had bought their trailer in for motorhome repair to make sure everything is OK for their trip. They are even getting the kids’ beds new flannel sheets!
Tubs for the Babies
I have so many friends who are expecting and we are throwing them baby showers left and right. Most of them will be having girls so our group of friends are joking around that we should pool money and give the babies a pair of hearts and arrows diamond earrings.
But of course we ended up giving the essentials – diapers, toiletries and bath tubs for babies!

Bath Center with Shower by Summer Infant ($26.54)

Tub With Sling by The First Years ($17.99)

Naked Collapsible Baby Bathtub by Boon (coming Dec. 2011)
Beatrix NY Bags
I’m sure receipt printer paper have gone out when these cute bags landed in Manila! I love the Beatrix NY bags, even more than the equally cute and famous Skip Hop bags, because I “think” they are more sturdy. They also come in different sizes – luggage trolley, a backpack and an insulated lunch bag. Too bad it’s a bit pricey for a kid’s bag, so I would not be able to get one for my daughter anytime soon.

H&M x UNICEF All for Children Collection 2011

I personally would trade my comfiest nursing scrubs to get these adorable clothes for my children – specifically, my five-year old daughter. I do not own a single item of clothing from H&M but I would not mind buying one for my children first. I have been told these pieces of clothing are worth their every penny.
And I would not hesitate to find out sooner!
